Department: UNIVERSITY EXTENSION - 027025 Department Description: UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the academic division of the university dedicated to workforce and career development. CPE helps professional working adults upskill, reskill and advance their careers. CPE partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis, and also works with employers and local experts to develop programs targeted to regional needs for economic development. More than 1,500 professionals teach in a wide array of specialized practice domains, including outstanding faculty from across UC Davis. Last year, CPE recorded nearly 62,000 enrollments in more than 4,200 classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. CPE also manages the university's relationship with Coursera, a leading MOOC platform, and has taught hundreds of thousands of students through this partnership. CPE is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. Job Summary: Under general direction of the Senior Instructional Designer for CPE's new Graduate Degree Development Team, works with department staff, faculty and/or Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design online graduate level courses, blended courses, and e-learning assets. Consults with faculty to understand their vision for their course, and assists faculty to develop quality content, assessments, assignments, cases, and simulations appropriate for graduate-level learners. Using pedagogical training and educational technology tools, produces and edits content, develops learning assets, and designs/executes learner engagements. Provides project management for all assigned projects, and coordinates with media team assigned to support video and audio production needs of each course. Operates in a high volume environment, managing multiple projects and priorities.
Work Environment: -Works flexible hours. Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F 8-5. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during critical periods such as a course launch. -Possesses a valid California driver's license. -Uses own vehicle as transportation to meeting locations within the greater Sacramento area. -Position is based in Sacramento at One Capitol Mall, with frequent on-site work at the School of Nursing on the medical campus in Sacramento. -UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in instructional design, adult learning theory or Instructional Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in the use of instructional design principles and models, and instructional design process.
Knowledge of adult learning theory.
Experience incorporating ADA design and development standards for web based delivery into online course content development. Familiarity with the concept of universal design.
Experience as an Instructional Designer for quality and complex online courses. Experience redesigning traditional classroom courses for online delivery.
Experience in the use of current instructional design principles and models, and instructional design process for higher education, professional and continuing education audiences. Ability to lead faculty, staff, and other stakeholders in this process.
Experience integrating advances in media into the design, development, and implementation of learning applications.
Experience partnering and supporting faculty and professional SMEs in developing learning objectives and content.
Experience developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys, interviews, and information while synthesizing ideas and integrating information that results in a holistic versus fragmented perspective and action.
Experience in project planning and management, including coordinating project resources. Experience with learning management systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience developing online courses at the graduate level.
Experience identifying and documenting potential problems and opportunities and recommending solutions.
Experience with interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness and user friendliness as well as preparing design documents and communications in this area of expertise.
Experience in leading and facilitating learning strategy meetings with faculty.
Experience applying instructional technology in innovative ways to design effective learning and teaching solutions.
Educational background and experience in the use of learning theory, preferably cognitive learning theory, or similar contemporary theories around teaching and learning.
Ability to integrate multimedia into web-based courses and familiarity with tools used to produced web-based materials, such as Presenter, Articulate, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Captivate, digital video, digital camera, digital audio, and editing software.
Understanding of production processes such as programming, video, and graphics capabilities.
Experience resolving complex problems without assistance and anticipating and managing risks in area of expertise.
Experience with a variety of project management tools and systems.
Experience in working effectively in a service oriented team environment.
