The Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) invites applications for a Researcher 6 position to conduct research and evaluation projects. The primary purpose of the CAREI Researcher 6’s work is to improve the quality of education for all learners. To achieve that purpose, the Researcher 6 must conduct neutral and rigorous educational research and evaluation projects The projects provide consultation and collaborative services that cover a broad range of education topics for non-profits, educational institutions, government, and faculty collaborations. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with hiring and overseeing the work of consultants for projects. In addition, the candidate will be expected to conduct evaluation activities. These activities involve developing multiple data collection instruments, conducting data collection and analysis, and report writing. The candidate will be expected to interact with a variety of stakeholders to acquire and interpret student data and will have the ability to design and implement evaluation designs.
The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise and experience in the field of research and evaluation as well as experience in working in school districts and school settings. The ideal candidate must be highly organized and skilled in verbal and written communication, and will have the ability to work independently and make decisions within a project. This position will report directly to the Center Director. In addition, the Research Associate will contribute to the expansion of CAREI’s and the College’s research and outreach efforts throughout the state by supporting the work of the Associate Director for Innovation and Outreach. The Research Associate will assist in developing and sustaining opportunities to support state and local educational and social service agencies’ research, evaluation, and assessment efforts across Minnesota, and eventually the country.
This is a 100% time, 12-month academic professional position on an annually renewable contract. Annual renewals are subject to a successful performance review and availability of funds. The starting date for this position is open and the salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
Conduct Research and Evaluation (60%)
Provide expertise to clients on appropriate approaches to use for conducting research and evaluation to inform decision making.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of data collected for research/evaluation projects
Prepare written and oral reports of research and evaluation results
Lead research/evaluation teams in the preparation of reports
Design Research and Data Collection Instruments (20%)
Design research and evaluation plans to meet the information needs of school districts, non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, and community organizations
Work with clients to develop research based proposals for grants and research/evaluation projects including logic models, methods designs, and literature reviews
Develop qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments including interview protocols, focus group protocols, surveys, rating scales, and observations to answer the research/evaluation questions specific to projects
Innovation and Outreach (15%)
Assist in facilitating community engagement with key state stakeholders.
Provide expertise in educational leadership and policy.
Provide expertise on training and consulting to solve educational problems.
Provide professional development, tools, templates, and models to promote CAREI's contributions to research and service in educational agencies, which include local, state, and CEHD.
Engage in highly effective communication with educational agencies and policy makers.
Promote CAREI at professional conferences.
Stay current with latest developments in education in MN and the country.
Identify and respond to requests for proposals from educational agencies and professional organizations.
Coordinate and Supervise Project Personnel (5%)
Serve as project lead for multiple research and evaluation projects
Serve as point person for communication with clients on projects
Oversee and coordinate project staff and graduate students in the completion of projects
Ensure the implementation of research/and evaluation plans by following timelines and producing products and deliverables
Manage budgets and effort for all personnel assigned to projects
Advanced degree in an Education, Psychology, Leadership, Evaluation or related field, with 6 years of experience, or a terminal degree and 3 years of experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
Experience in leading and conducting multiple large and small scale projects and coordinating the analysis, evaluation and reporting on all phases of the project(s).
Experience in developing research and evaluation plans and addressing highly complex methodology challenges through the design of protocols, policies, procedures.
Experience in researching advanced research and evaluation concepts and creating designs to address evaluation contexts and implementation challenges.
Experience in conducting field-based research in local educational agencies (LEAs), and schools using mixed approaches including quantitative and qualitative methodologies to research and evaluate programs and policies.
Experience conducting research and evaluation involving students, teachers, parents, and administration in school settings.
Experience with special education programming and service delivery models.
Experience in research, assessment and evaluation in an educational, higher education, or social service agency.
Ability to work independently, as well as serve on a research team, to make decisions to keep processes moving forward.
In-depth level of knowledge in the application of research methodologies used in the field of evaluation.
