Business Title: Senior Director of Student Engagement Division/School: Vice Provost for Student Affairs
The Senior Director of Student Engagement provides campus-wide leadership, strategy, vision, support and long-range planning for student engagement initiatives and activities. This individual has primary responsibility for leading the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) which enables students to develop and support student organizations and events, oversees and supports Greek life, serves as a resource for student leadership programs across the division, and oversees student organization space and White Plaza, a major campus program space and University-designated free speech area. In addition, this role oversees ongoing efforts to create a vibrant social life on campus.
The Senior Director develops strong and strategic partnerships with division leadership, Student Affairs professionals, and university offices to implement this vision and strategy and to formulate and implement policies and procedures. This leader manages the work of other employees, including managers, and serves as a member of various work groups in Student Affairs and across campus. The Senior Director reports to the Associate Vice Provost of Inclusion, Community and Integrative Learning (ICIL) and serves as a member of the ICIL leadership team.
Provide strategic direction for and manage the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) including the work of managers and other staff, processes, and projects to implement the strategic goals of the department. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage performance and staffing levels. Forecast, plan and manage program budgets. o Develop educational and community strategy that guides approximately 300 student organizations and 17 Greek life organizations. o Lead strategy for the office in terms of event and program development and implementation, inclusion and access practices, policy parameters and risk management. o Develop and lead a pool of staff and faculty advisers who work with student organizations, and provide leadership and training for these advisers. o Oversee administration of Stanford Fund Partnership (TSF) funds to support student activities.
Work in close collaboration with campus partner organizations and in particular with the Centers for Equity, Community and Leadership to support the student organizations with which these partners are involved.
Oversee the registration and university recognition of voluntary student organizations.
Facilitate and partner in leadership training as an integral part of the experiences of ASSU, fraternities, sororities, other voluntary and registered student organizations and with campus partners such as the Graduate School of Business, Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and others.
Develop and coordinate strategy and planning for student events developed through the OSE with those developed with Residential Education, Graduate Life Office, Office of Alcohol Prevention and Education and professional schools and other academic units. Ensure health and safety of participants and responsible event management.
Lead the development and provision of information about University policies relevant to student events through training, clear and concise web-based information, event-planning workbooks, and monitoring of events by staff. Oversee and approve all activities in White Plaza, serve as the AVP ICIL's representative to University event planning initiatives.
Serve as the liaison with the ASSU Legislative Branch and Stanford Student Enterprises.
Identify, clarify, and resolve complex, highly visible issues with university-wide scope and strategic impact and substantial significance which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment and in-depth knowledge of university policies, governance and priorities.
Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures. Direct process improvement.
Review exceptions to university, program, or department policies and procedures; settle grievances.
Develop, analyze, measure effectiveness and oversee programs and tools for delivery of student services or programs.
Lead university or division-wide initiatives and campaigns? develop long range planning and policy development for OSE programs.
Represent department programs and initiatives at senior level meetings, conferences, and to both internal and external constituents.
Evaluate and recommend the technological needs and effectiveness for delivery of student programs and services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience including five years working in a student affairs or student services office, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting preferred.
A masters degree is preferred.
