The Ohio State University College of Optometry is seeking a Claims Coordinator to be part of the Billing Office team. The position provides leadership, support and customer service for clinical billing operations; serves as liaison between attending’s, patients, and payers; answers phones; responds to patient inquiries about coverage for eye and vision care services; performs all aspects of insurance claim processing and accounts receivable services including verification of patient information; verification and interpretation of insurance coverage; files insurance claims with agency-sponsored and privately insured patients; posts insurance checks to patient accounts; produces insurance billing statements; processes patient payments; provides information on insurance claim procedures; processes and balances all optometry clinic accounts through computer terminal. Processes medical and vision insurance claims for third parties via paper and electronic billing; processes interdepartmental billings; audits patient accounts and makes adjustments and billing determinations; serves as a resource to students and attending doctors regarding correct procedure and reviewing ICD-10 diagnosis codes; reconciliation of Explanation of Benefits; assists the billing supervisor with patient financial accounts and problem solving in the college’s practice management system. Works with billing supervisor on clinic fiscal matters, including insurance billing, accounts receivable management and reconciliation, collection of patient accounts, completing daily deposits; prepares statistical and analytical reports as needed; other duties as directed.
HS Graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum six months of experience in a health care setting; ability to collaborate and communicate effectively at all organizational levels; proficiency with computers and related software including Microsoft Office; excellent communication skills.
Certified Medical coder/biller or minimum of two years of experience in an optometry practice; knowledge of vision and medical insurance plans; experience with ICD-9/10 and CPT codes; electronic billing knowledge; experience with government insurance such as Bureau of Workers Compensation, Medicare, Medicaid, CareSource etc.
Target Salary: $17.00 - $18.27 Hourly
