The Divisional Liaison for the Physical and Biological Sciences is manager and technical leader for a staff of IT professionals who support the division's faculty and staff. The position works to understand the IT needs of the division and to plan, coordinate, and manage the delivery of IT services to meet those needs. Successful candidates will demonstrate both breadth and depth in expertise aligned to the unit's portfolio: http://its.pbsci.ucsc.edu. This position requires expert knowledge in network, storage, computing, system administration, software configuration, and scripting.
This position works closely with the Research IT Team (RIT), partnering with campus level research cyber infrastructure (RCI) experts including the senior engineers in the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS), contributing domain scientists, researchers and research groups and educators necessary to engage in, and drive, new information technology capabilities in support of scientific discovery. RIT provides campus leadership in the development of UC Santa Cruz's IT infrastructure to better meet the needs of faculty and research projects in support of the campus missions of research, teaching, and public service.
The Divisional Liaison also plays a primary role in working to assure synergy between the division and ITS by working cooperatively with local IT staff in the other academic divisions and ITS units on shared service delivery and in representing the Physical and Biological Sciences in campus-wide IT initiatives, planning, standards and policy setting, and operational governance.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Typically 2-5 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
Expert knowledge in network, storage, compute (HPC), system administration, software configuration and scripting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
