We're hiring a Coordinating Producer to assist in the ambitious work -- from community engagement to reporting to talk segments -- of "Elections 2020: Listening to America." This public media project will connect the work of local collaboratives and stations to a larger narrative about the diversity in perspectives at play across the country. The Coordinating Producer must be able to jump in at any point in the process in whatever role is needed; and they must be able to handle uncertainty and solve problems. It's a particularly good role for someone who relishes the challenges of audio and video. KCUR 89.3, Kansas City's NPR affiliate, is leading the central team based in Kansas City. For the right person, we're open to a remote workplace. Regular travel expected. This project is funded by a Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant.
Basic Function and Responsibility
This individual will provide ongoing technical and audio support for engagement, events, reporting and training related to all aspects of the Elections 2020 project. The Coordinating Producer also will research, report and produce content at the direction of the central team.
Work with project team to determine what collaboratives need in connection with all aspects of the project, and ensure those needs are met on a daily basis.
Assist with all areas of engagement or production including conducting research, editing and mixing audio; logging tape; recording interviews, coordinating tape syncs, and booking interviews.
Assist in crafting narration and script writing for events and journalistic content.
Create audio and text promos and audio billboards for special work related to the project.
Work closely with team to meet production and delivery deadlines.
Ensure quality and consistency of audio productions.
Contribute to brainstorming discussions -- helping connect community engagement work to the journalism.
Participate in appropriate fund-raising and outreach activities, on air and off.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field required; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; and at least three years of experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Two-to-four-plus years of editing audio experience (studio, field and post-production) in a professional environment.
Two years of work experience in public media.
Working with video and experience or interest in sound design.
Editing podcasts or similar long form audio.
Compiling many pieces of audio to create one finished product.
Writing scripts for narrative stories.
Conducting research and creating outlines.
Proficiency in Adobe Audition or similar editing software.
Meticulous attention to detail and time management.
Proven news judgment and journalistic integrity.
Ability to multi-task several projects at once.
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while remaining composed and productive.
Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule.
Enthusiasm for the role of public media in a changing journalism environment.
This position reports directly to the Senior Editor-Elections 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is funded by a CPB grant.
