Assistant Professor of Anthropology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Rowan University is seeking applicants to fill an assistant professor tenure-track position in Cultural Anthropology beginning September 1, 2020. All areas of specialization will be considered, including (but not limited to) gender, religion, Native American. Applicants must be willing to teach undergraduate, graduate, and online courses, produce scholarly research, and be committed to department and university service. The successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding for research and participate in departmental initiatives such as creation of new curriculums, the development and teaching of online courses, interdisciplinary programs, and the offering of programs at multiple campuses. Class size is 35 students or less. A 3/3 teaching load is guaranteed for the first five years and can be renewed annually after the 6th year and attaining tenure with evidence of continuing scholarship. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Anthropology, or ABD with a firm date of completion, a clear research agenda and a strong commitment to quality teaching and active service. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is the second largest college at Rowan University with seven departments, seven interdisciplinary programs, and seventeen majors. The College also has a number of established graduate programs and is in the process of developing more programs at the Master’s and Doctoral level. The College also houses a number of Centers and Institutes that serve both research and pedagogical functions. CHSS places a strong emphasis on exceptional teaching, research and service. Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 19,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. Rowan is the second university in the country to offer M.D. and D.O. medical-degree granting programs. The School of Osteopathic Medicine has a faculty practice plan that serves approximately 200,000 patients in Southern New Jersey. The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, which fosters the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes. Its business incubator also supports that mission. The University boast seven colleges – William G. Rohrer College of Business, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and colleges of Communications and Creative Arts, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science and Mathematics, as well as the School of Biomedical Science and Health Professions.
