The Senior Purchasing Specialist plays an important role within Purchasing & Supplier Management (PSM) and at AbbVie. The position is responsible for developing, optimizing and ensuring the delivery of category strategies in concert with the Corporation’s overall goals. The position’s objective is to assess business improvement opportunities through supplier and market analysis that will deliver maximum value as measured through risk mitigation and cost savings.
As a Senior Purchasing Specialist, you will coordinate and lead sourcing activities with teams that encompass local, domestic and/or international business representatives. You will be responsible for obtaining program support from various partner teams. You will create and be responsible for the project plan, identify the resources to drive projects through a sourcing process and ensure end result considers the requirements of all functional areas impacted. Align with the Purchasing Manager to optimize related areas of spend for procurement activities
Develop and implement short term and long term cost reduction and risk mitigation strategies
Lead role in developing supplier base to expand business, reduce total costs, assure quality, maintain internal relations, and on-time deliveries. Identify potential supplier in alignment with respective Category Manager and preferred supplier network (PSN)
Responsible for developing strategy: RFP / RFI / RFQ / Pricing Auction aligned with direction from Purchasing Manager and respective Category Manager
Identify areas to improve supplier service levels by integrating agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Review with business partners and drive forward
Perform and collect due diligence information required for evaluating and approving new suppliers in line with the Preferred Supplier Networks. Look for new ways to expand PSN usage.
Data analysis for purchasing projects and supplier management (supplier metrics and research, master data, market basket analysis, pricing analysis, monthly/quarterly reporting of metrics and savings reporting)
Develop and write sourcing event documents. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures and regulations
Demonstrate high ethical standard, in compliance with the law and AbbVie policies and procedures
Required Qualifications & Skills
You should have a minimum of 5 years of procurement / negotiation experience in purchasing preferably but not limited to Pharmaceutical.
Strong knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years equivalent work experience
Ability to effectively communicate to business partners, management, and third-party service providers
Ability to prioritize and organize workload across multiple projects
Ability to manage conflict, develop and grow relationships
Ability to comprehend procurement processes as well as basic knowledge of indirect products and services used globally
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
