As part of the team, you will perform complex accounting functions associated with the American Medical Association's procedures, which include maintaining and recording business transactions, maintaining general ledger accounts, balancing and reconciling ledgers, preparing reports and other accounting related functions. Create, recommend, maintain, and follow accounting department policies and procedures.
Other Responsibilities will include:
Record expenses and recognize revenue on selected activities in accordance with GAAP
Prepare, process and/or review complex monthly journal entries to the appropriate general ledger account ensuring that proper accounting policies and procedures are strictly followed
Perform monthly analyses on assigned accounts, follow through on resolving open issues or irregularities in a timely manner
Analyze trends on selected revenue and expense accounts; ensure consistent methodology
Review and test monthly expenses for proper classification; provide monthly and year-to-date analyses
Maintain files for audit and reporting and may liaison with external auditors; ensure all documents are compliant with department policies and government rules and regulations where appropriate
Coordinate invoicing on selected accounts
Prepare monthly aging reports for Accounting and Operations management, follow up on delinquent accounts per policy
Work with Operations unit to ensure timely and accurate posting of monthly contracts
Ensure that third party documentation supports all month end accruals
Maintain knowledge of current accounting procedures and industry standards
Create, recommend, and maintain accounting department policies and procedures
May include other responsibilities as assigned

THE AMA IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF THE NATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or relevant degree required; CPA preferred
5 years of professional experience, with an emphasis in general accounting activities
For-profit experience required
Demonstrated experience with financial software packages including Info (Lawson) and Essbase preferred
Demonstrated experience applying company policies and procedures to determine appropriate action in resolving issues
Strong planning and organizing skills required, must meet commitments and deadlines
Self-starter with the ability to work independently
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
