This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Immunology. The position is located at the Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO.
Position functions as a Medical Assistant to physicians in the clinical setting in the Division of Allergy and Immunology primarily at West County. This position also provides coverage when needed at the Lung Center and South County locations. Position is responsible for administering injections, allergy skin tests, drug skin testing, and spirometry. Position assists with rhinoscopy procedures. Directs the patient and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. The Medical Assistant will serve as a liaison between patients and physicians and advocates the patients’ needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain vital signs & room patient.
Collect and document meaningful use information in the electronic patient record.
Administer injections and perform allergy skin testing, drug testing & desensitization, phlebotomy, & spirometry.
Assist with triaging phone messages. Return patient phone calls and respond to their needs under the direction and guidance of physicians and nurse.
Complete pharmacy refills.
Monitor supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms.
Obtain supervising physician signatures for injection and infusion log.
Assist physicians with rhinoscopy procedures when requested.
Schedule labwork and diagnostic procedures.
Complete prior authorizations for medications, procedures, etc.
Document accurate information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
Comply with OSHA, state and federal regulatory sources/standards.
Work as a team with all team members. Assist other team members when time allows.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of six months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within six months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Must be able to show proof of Medical Assistant registration/certification or complete Medical Assistant registration/certification within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Interactive communication skills with the ability to work with physicians, patients and support staff.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and patient assessment skills.
Working knowledge of anatomy & physiology and fundamentals of body mechanics.
Working knowledge of allergy & immunology disease states so as to identify significant symptomatology when reported by patients.
The hiring range for this position is $14.44 - $17.70 per hour.
