DESCRIPTION: The Processing Specialist provides a high level of expertise and customer service for students completing the verification process. Maintains current knowledge of all changes and updates to Federal Regulations pertaining to the verification process. Acts as the primary contact with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) regarding Cal Grant eligibility and processing. Processes all grant and scholarship payments.
Performs verification process on selected students for all populations, including analysis and data-entry of required data elements into Ellucian Colleague or CPS in compliance with Federal regulations.
Reviews verification documents for accuracy, conflicting information, and works with students and parents to resolve conflicting information through written communication and making appropriate corrections if necessary.
Communicates with students selected for verification via mail, email, and phone regarding missing information and required documentation.
Takes appointments with students and parents as needed regarding verification.
Communicates changes and new verification regulations and processes to students and to other staff and related departments.
Processes National Guard and Yellow Ribbon awards for all eligible students.
Processes all outside scholarships and ensures that they are applied to student's account.
Applies institutional scholarships for eligible student populations.
Processes Pell Grant and Cal Grant payment for all populations, verifying eligibility at time of payment
Serves as main point of contact for students and staff regarding the Cal Grant program, making follow up calls, verifying eligibility, maintaining online grant roster, assisting with reconciliation as needed.
Perform data entry of federal and institutional loan documents for all student populations.
Serves as backup on phones, for walk-ins, and participating in team effort to provide excellent customer service to students and parents.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one (1) year of additional coursework in related fields. Three (3) years of related experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination thereof. Successful candidate will possess extensive experience with federal and state financial aid regulations and processes. Must have excellent communication, organization and analytical skills. Must have strong personal computer skills including proficiency with spreadsheets, data base, and word processing software applications. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of alumni, community, government agencies, collection and billing agencies, students, faculty and staff.
