The International Student Advisor/Administrative Assistant provides immigration-related advising and support to international students at the college, with a main focus on maintaining immigration-related files and managing administrative processes in the office.
• Advise international students regarding immigration rules and regulations and serve as a main contact for questions regarding SEVIS records; • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), including complying with all government regulations regarding F-1 students. (Note: To serve as a DSO, a staff member must be a citizen of the United States); • Manage SEVIS registrations, transfers, and updates; • Liaise with other departments as needed; • Maintain immigration-related student files in compliance with regulations; • Assist with processing of internship/Curricular Practical Training (CPT) materials; • Perform various office duties including but not limited to: • Phone calls, photocopying, mail/mailing/merges, ordering office supplies, purchase orders, check requests, reimbursement requests; • Use of Banner (student account software), including entering of data; • Other duties as assigned.
Experience Experience interacting with SEVIS required; Experience working with international students or clients.
Skills & Knowledge • Ability to meet regulatory eligibility to be a DSO; • Knowledge of immigration-related law, Dept. of Homeland Security, Dept. of State regulations and procedures; • Cross-cultural communication skills; • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Banner); • Ability to efficiently multitask and prioritize with demanding timeframes; • Strong analytical problem solving, and organization skills.
