The Foster School of Business currently has an outstanding opportunity for a INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER.
Are you skilled at coaching subject matter experts to create outstanding online or hybrid courses in an academic setting? If so, we'd like to talk to you about joining our Hybrid MBA Program team as an Instructional Designer. In this Instructional Designer role, you will collaborate with Hybrid MBA Program (Program) team members and Foster School faculty to create best-in-class courses. You will be expected to use advanced coaching and core instructional design methodologies daily. Listening actively, balancing inquiry and advocacy, and providing savvy options a in other words, building outstanding relationships in everything you do -- are just as important to this role as analyzing, designing, developing, and implementing prototypes and courses. Our team works hard to continuously improve its relationship-building, development, and project management approaches; you will be expected to join in on these efforts immediately. All of this work will help you, and the team, meet the high-bar expectations of the Program, the Foster School of Business, and other Program stakeholders. You will report directly to the Director of Curriculum Development and Delivery of the Program and work closely with the Director, another Instructional Designer and a three-person Media team.
You will be joining a two-year-old startup-style Program with lofty expectations, outstanding faculty SMEs, and great teammates. You will need to rapidly gain a clear understanding of how the Program team operates in a context in which our subject matter experts are world-class researchers and instructors. Some have prior experience with online / hybrid learning; many do not. In your work with Program faculty, you will find that no two coaching relationships and course development arcs are the same, requiring substantial flexibility on your part to make the processes work for the Program and faculty. The differences in course development arcs, delivery approaches taken by faculty, and your flexibility in designing to these needs represent a huge strategic opportunity for the Program. As we make strategic and tactical progress in the Program, you will contribute ideas and support Program decisions. Our goal is that you will quickly acquire and excel at relationship-building and course development with our current processes, while at the same time you are coaching us on ways to improve how we do business.A You will need to rapidly acquire an understanding of the strategic initiatives prescribed by the University and the Business School, and then translate those initiatives to meet overall Program goals. We expect you to be able to interact successfully with various constituents, including 200+ Hybrid students, 25+ faculty, and a growing alumni population. In all of your interactions, you will advance the reputations and prestige of the University, Business School, and Hybrid MBA Program.
Engage collaboratively, using advanced coaching a relationship-building skills, with Foster School faculty (SMEs) and Hybrid team members.
Analyze and understand teaching and learning needs and use that analysis to inform the development of content delivery, interactions, assessments, and accompanying materials.
Collaborate on the continuous improvement of Hybrid MBA Program goals, objectives, and processes to meet the objectives of the Business School and the University
Support evening, instructor-led, on-campus videoconferencing sessions several times during each 10-week Quarter.
Develop curriculum using agile approaches, active learning, and an ADDIE-SAM instructional design methodology.
Analyze and collaborate with other Hybrid MBA Program team members to rapidly iterate learning activity prototypes, learning simulations, and QA testing scenarios.
Create, develop and oversee production of instructional materials that follow accessibility and style guidelines; use templates that embody those guidelines.
Review and collaboratively revise video scripts written by SMEs.
Produce, iterate, and refine instructional materials, including but not limited to course blueprint documents, course shells, online activities (both synchronous and asynchronous), and collateral materials (such as rubrics, assignment guides, other scaffolding materials, slides, and simulations / gamifications).
Analyze, create and translate course blueprints into Canvas courses. Rapidly iterate revisions to learning activities housed in Canvas. Use understanding of the Canvas LMS to assist with active-learning design.
Work as part of the Hybrid MBA Program team to refine and iterate data-gathering and analysis approaches.
Troubleshoot, analyze, and solve technical delivery issues.
Project Support: (25%)
Contribute to strategic and independent decisions that will support overall departmental goals and strategies both with respect to prospective students, students, faculty and staff as well as translate those to meet the overall Hybrid MBA program goals.
Manage and support video and other multimedia production processes.
Implement and administer Hybrid MBA Program curriculum project management needs.
Carry out other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in communication, education, or similar field
Five years of experience in instructional design in a higher education, non-profit, government, and/or corporate environment.
Demonstrated application of instructional design methodologies, including ADDIE, SAM, rapid prototyping, active learning, adult learning theory, and educational analytics.
Strong interpersonal skills, specifically in coaching and relationship-building, with both SMEs and team members.
Demonstrated skills in acting as a curriculum development and delivery coach.
Demonstrated use of Canvas LMS functionality and a videoconferencing application for educational purposes.
Demonstrated video production support, including script revision and alignment of finished product with instructional objectives.
Demonstrated project management skills in business operations, program management, training operations, or business development.
Demonstrated ability to learn new software applications rapidly and independently.A A
Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Some travel required.A
Masteras Degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design or related field
Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and SMEs to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions and learning curricula.
Advanced Canvas LMS skills, to include training others to design and facilitate Canvas courses.
Experience using Quality Matters or other educational assessment approaches to assess online / blended learning design and delivery.
