Serve as a member of the jazz faculty, contributing to curricular offerings and the coordination of jazz activities; teach applied lessons in area of expertise; lead ensembles, including big band and smaller jazz combos; teach courses in improvisation and other courses, as needed and related to the candidate's area of expertise; maintain a national/international profile as an artist and/or scholar; collaborate musically and artistically, both within and outside of the university; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on graduate and faculty committees, as well as engaging in other Conservatory activities.
Highly dynamic and engaging teacher and creative artist; dedication to excellence as an instructor and performer and/or composer/arranger; significant professional experience as a jazz artist with a national/international reputation, with preference given to candidates with a strong record as a professional jazz recording artist; expertise as a jazz ensemble leader; demonstrated successful and innovative experience as a teacher of jazz; evidence of the ability to contribute to curricular development and administration of the jazz studies area; demonstrated ability to attract quality undergraduate and graduate students; doctoral degree in performance, or equivalent professional experience. Preference given to rhythm section or woodwind players, though consideration will be given to any jazz instrument.

This is a full time, benefit eligible, tenure track position. Date of appointment is September 1, 2020.
