Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA seeks a Director of Summer Programs to begin work in January 2020. This is a full time, year-round position that reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
The Beaver Summer Camp is a well-known and well-respected summer camp located just outside of Boston. It serves over 1,500 campers each summer, who range from age 3-15.
The Director is responsible for strategic and financial planning, operations, marketing, program design, promotion, budgeting, human resources, and evaluation of all summer programs, including the General Camp, Specialty Camps, and the Family Swim Club.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated the skills necessary to simultaneously manage multiple tasks while maintaining high standards, especially with respect to cultivating a caring and fun environment for campers and staff.
Essential Functions & Skill Sets
Prepare annual budget covering all aspects of program revenues and expenses to ensure profitability. Current gross revenue is $4.4M; Net is $1.8M.
Monitor revenue and expenses in accordance with budgetary restrictions for bottom line performance across all programs
Establish and monitor appropriate compensation for all summer program employees
Collaborate with school administration, and faculty to ensure all summer programs align with Beaver’s mission and philosophy
Design, enhance, and expand program offerings to assure alignment with a strategic summer programs vision
Explore innovative opportunities for leveraging the intellectual and physical assets of the school and incorporate these into summer programming
Create and implement a program evaluation to be administered at the end of camp sessions
Provide an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for all summer program participants
Establish routines, provide positive guidance, and enforce policies and procedures, including disciplinary policies, in accordance with Beaver’s handbook and stated values
Provide ongoing supervision and support for all staff
Develop and oversee all safety and health protocols in coordination with school risk management plan
Marketing and Communications
In coordination with the Communications and Marketing department, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for all summer programs to ensure applications remain competitive and at current levels
Ensure that all summer programs have an effective and accurate web presence including website, social media, and digital marketing
Manage all public relations and marketing initiatives including open houses, mailers, brochures, camp fairs, and ad placement to promote and communicate the programs to prospective and enrolled participants
Write and distribute regular communications among summer program constituencies that provide updated information and a sense of community
Administration and Operations
Coordinate registration in conjunction with the camp office manager
Maintain accurate and comprehensive summer programs database
Prepare reports for and communicate with Beaver’s management team to ensure awareness of summer program performance
Execute and oversee all contracts related to programs
Ensure that all summer programs are in compliance with applicable regulations of licensing and governing entities
Recruit, hire, and train 250+ summer program employees
Ensure that all necessary and required employment forms, including background checks, are completed and maintained
Assure all employees pass CORI and fingerprint procedures per Beaver and State policy
Coordinate and conduct annual performance evaluations of all summer programs personnel
Coordinate and communicate timely payroll with the Business Office
Participate in special assignments and projects as needed to improve school operations (i.e. buildings and grounds, safety, accreditation, committees, etc.)
Perform other duties as may be assigned
Proven track record and experience managing summer camp programs is essential
Bachelor's degree required; MA preferred
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders
Must enjoy working in a youth-centered academic environment
Strong analytical & computation skills and proficiency with technology
Flexibility, creativity, and sense of humor
Three references from past supervisors or managers that address organizational ability, skills, and ability to work effectively to build and maintain positive morale
