The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing is seeking a dynamic, mission-minded, research scientist to lead the research enterprise of the college of nursing. The associate dean of research is responsible for fostering research and scholarship productivity of the faculty. This position also works in partnership with the Office of Sponsored Programs Administrative Network (OSPAN) and oversees activities for advancing research and fostering scholarship initiatives on campus, in the state, regionally and nationally, and attracting support at the state and national levels. The duties of the associate dean of research contribute to the mission of UAMS: to improve the health, health care and well-being of Arkansans and of others in the region, nation and world.

The associate dean of research serves as a vital partner in framing the strategic direction for the research and scholarship mission of the institution and college of nursing. This individual collaborates with associate deans of research across UAMS, the vice chancellor for research, the Translational Research Institute, and agencies within the state and region. As an integral member of the college of nursing executive leadership team, the associate dean of research reports directly to the dean of the UAMS College of Nursing. The associate dean of research will provide leadership for the research mission of the college of nursing and UAMS, mentor individual faculty members in development and implementation of their programs of research/scholarship, develop mentorship skills among experienced research faculty, and formulate, in conjunction with the faculty and administration, a clear vision and strategic plan for the research mission.
Qualifications include an earned doctorate in nursing or a health related discipline from an accredited institution; experience conducting research in the nursing discipline, with preference for experience in an academic health science setting; full-time senior faculty rank of associate professor or professor with tenure; expertise in research methods and grant management; administrative experience at a senior level; a significant record of scholarly achievement and history of extramural funding. Experience on NIH study section is preferred. The ideal candidate will enjoy mentoring faculty and students on both tenure and non-tenure tracks to enhance their research programs and other scholarship.
