The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) Logistics and Services team is responsible for the daily operations of the SEAS loading dock, mailroom, stockroom, and other SEAS-managed services. The Logistics and Services Attendant's responsibilities include sorting, coordinating, and servicing all mail-related deliveries and pickups of mail/packages for all Engineering-Quadrangle departments and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, shipping and receiving operations at the loading dock, management of the stockroom, and oversight of hazardous materials and gases for the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
- Mailroom Activities: Daily pickup and drop-off of School of Engineering and Applied Science USPS Mail, parcels/packages and campus mail to and from Main Campus Mail facility in Forrestal Campus. Sort, distribute, deliver and pickup mail/metered mail and packages for all E-Quad mailrooms/departments and Andlinger Center. Provide guidance, options and shipping recommendations for mail, parcels and packages and e-Ship processing for outgoing customer UPS and FedEx packages.
- Loading Dock Activities: Receive, sort, record and deliver packages and freight for all daily, common, express and bulk carriers. This includes proper handling of gas cylinders, hazardous material packages, perishables, liquid helium dewars, crates, skids, pallets, etc. Oversee the daily operations of the receiving dock to ensure all areas are kept completely free of all debris, chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Miscellaneous Duties: Monitor and oversee all loading dock gas cylinder sheds to ensure all cylinders have caps and are properly/safely secured. Monthly testing of gas leaks for cylinders and flammable containers in all loading dock gas sheds. Monitor fuel levels for business vans, fill with gas as necessary, and pickup and drop-off vans for scheduled service appointments and inspections. Assist with Dean's Staff requests including moving small furniture, boxes, etc. Surplus items for the Dean's Staff, as a surplus coordinator. Assist with SEAS Stockroom supervision as needed. Other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of 4-6 years of work experience.
Outstanding customer service and excellent communication skills.
Willingness to work in a team environment, have a positive attitude, be dependable, and be flexible.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; comfortable using technology systems for efficient delivery of services.
Valid Driver's License.
Physical qualifications including stand/walk for 2-4 hours at a time; lift, carry, push, pull up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally; repetitively use hands for grasping, pushing, and pulling; work outdoors and on a loading dock in a variety of environmental conditions; etc.
Previous USPS, mail service experience, and/or shipping and receiving logistics experience.
Experience in a University or government setting.
Knowledge of EHS and OSHA health and safety guidelines and regulations related to handling gas cylinders, hazardous material packages, and chemicals.
