About the Position: University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. The Alumni Engagement department strives to foster a lifelong community of alumni connected to each other and to the institution with the goal of generating private financial support and engagement with the University. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Vice President, Alumni Engagement. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement as a senior manager in the division, the Assistant Vice President is responsible for envisioning, implementing and refining strategies to engage, cultivate, serve and steward alumni relationships for increased growth in support of the strategic vision, mission and priorities of Cal State Fullerton. The Assistant Vice President will provide collaborative leadership focusing on all aspects of Alumni Engagement and provide management level staff support to the Alumni Association as the Executive Director. The Assistant Vice President is responsible for the overall administration of Alumni Engagement efforts including setting strategy to meet division objectives. Working with a staff of seven, these responsibilities include developing programs and activities that promote alumni interaction, affinity for the institution and the cultivation of prospects; support of the comprehensive campaign; integration of technology for alumni engagement; developing and managing an effective membership recruitment program for the Association; working extensively with volunteers and members of the Association's board; developing student-alumni programming; maintaining fiscal and operation oversight of the Golleher Alumni House as an event venue; and partnering with others on various budgets, assigned staff and all business and operational aspects of alumni relations and Alumni Association programs. Independently exercises considerable latitude in determining and achieving divisional objectives on a day-to-day basis. Consults with executive level management on department and division activities and objectives. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of five years of alumni relations, fundraising or applicable management experience. Experience in staff supervision and volunteer management, including work with governing boards. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Experience in financial and operational management of a department or complex program. Ability to understand the culture of a university. Ability to work with teams of faculty, staff, students and volunteers. Ability to travel to meet with alumni and assigned prospects. Proficiency in the use of general office equipment and Windows-based personal computers. Proficiency in using administrative computing system(s), MS Office applications, and other relevant software applications.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. Seven + years of alumni relations, fundraising or applicable management experience.

The scope of responsibilities for this position includes the making or participating in the making of decisions that may have a material financial benefit on the incumbent. Therefore, you will be required to file an initial Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests within thirty (30) days from date of hire and on an annual basis; and complete the CSU sponsored ethics on-line training within thirty (30) days of appointment, and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment. The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Ability to work weekends and /or evenings as needed.
