Assistant Professor / Director of Orchestral Activities
The Rowan University Department of Music announces a tenure track, Director of Orchestral Activities position to begin September 1, 2020. The successful candidate will join a department that serves approximately 20 full time professors, 90 adjunct professors, and 400 music majors who are committed to providing collaborative performance opportunities and inclusive programming.
The Director of Orchestral Activities will demonstrate conducting abilities at the highest artistic standard; a successful track record as an orchestra director (preferably with college music majors); a comprehensive knowledge of standard and contemporary orchestral and opera repertoire; and proven rehearsal techniques and excellent pedagogical skills. In addition, the Director of Orchestral Activities will provide a vision for the future of Rowan University’s orchestral program, serve as a leader in recruiting outstanding students, and maintain active and collaborative relationships with public schools in the region.
The successful candidate should possess administrative skills, show promise for significant scholarly/creative achievement and have an ongoing commitment to advancing the profession, both as a teacher and guest conductor outside of Rowan University. In addition to conducting the University Orchestra, teaching duties may include courses that match the candidate's qualifications, background, and interests, such as undergraduate and graduate conducting. A master’s degree in music is required; doctorate or equivalent experience is preferred.

The Department of Music enrollment has approximately 400 students and has a faculty of 20 full-time and 90 adjunct teachers. Degrees offered include undergraduate and graduate degrees in performance, music education, composition, jazz studies, music therapy and Bachelor of Arts.
