This position has primary responsibility for the daily operation of the washroom. Duties include preparing clean animal cages for daily care of animals used in research projects. The position is responsible for sterilizing supplies (using an autoclave), prepping cages and cage accessories (lids, and feeders), preparing and sterilizing water bottles, maintaining enrichment items, tracking sanitation standards for equipment.
Keeps stock of feed, bedding and other supplies related to standard and/or non-standard animal housing.
Performs related duties as assigned.
This is routine technical work involving the daily operations relating to animals used in controlled research projects. Work is subject to spot-checking for conformance with instructions and sanitary procedures, but most assignments are performed without review of work methods. Functional contacts include co-workers, students, and researchers.
High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician by A.A.L.A.S. is desirable.
