Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
The University Testing Center (UTC) at Binghamton University is designed to support faculty in implementing authorized testing accommodations not easily provided within their classrooms. The UTC also assists faculty efforts to provide a space for students who need alternate testing times and locations for other legitimate reasons. University Tutorial Services (UTS) provides tutoring to undergraduate students in over 100 courses.
The UTC Assistant Director will often be the first point of contact between the University Testing Center and faculty, and must uphold high standards of excellence in customer service and support of UTS/UTC's programs and services. The position will also require recruiting, hiring and supervising of a diverse staff of graduate and undergraduate students. The UTC Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Director in overall management, staff supervision, budget, and vision of the centers. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the University Tutorial and Testing Services.
Duties and responsibilities with the University Testing Center:
Generate and maintain detailed records of all pertinent exam information
Manage the UTC's exam schedule and ensure adequate staffing and space for scheduled exams. This includes checking in students as they arrive in testing location, distributing and collecting exam materials and maintaining a clean and quiet atmosphere for testing
Actively proctor exams and work with faculty to obtain exam materials and return them in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials
Collaborate with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) to meet student needs and work with students who need special accommodations (extended time, enlarged text, testing software, etc.)
Compile and analyze center usage data
Work with other BU staff members to implement new technologies and assist with advertising of services for the center
Duties and responsibilities with University Tutorial Services:
Assist in preparing and organizing tutor training, including online modules, full day trainings, and check-in meetings in accordance with UTS policies and CRLA guidelines
Work with other tutoring services on campus to create a cohesive learning environment
Assist students in finding tutoring resources and manage schedules for 60-70 peer tutors
Entry of tutoring data into Starfish software and analytical assessment of tutoring services data. Maintain all documentation related to tutoring activities
Meet with tutors regarding issues with sessions (attendance, schedule changes, etc.) and provide outreach to various on-campus departments
At least 2 years of experience tutoring or teaching at the high school or college level
Experience with academic program management with a strong focus on administration
Experience with supervision
Excellent interpersonal, group leadership, written and verbal communications skills
Experience working in a tutoring center (or other academic support center) at the university level
Prior experience with (or training in) course-based tutoring and/or skills-oriented tutoring programs
Knowledge of College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines
Experience with Starfish software
Experience with assistive technologies (Kurzweil, JAWS, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience supervising and developing student workers
