The outreach arm of USDA and the American land-grant university system, Cooperative Extension takes the University to the people with programming that includes but is not limited to: food safety; nutrition, diet, and health; 4-H and youth development; sustainable agriculture; home gardening; financial and resource management; leadership and volunteer development. This position will work specifically with the University of Delaware Nutrient Management Program under the general direction of the Nutrient Management Specialist (Professor) and will collaborate with Delaware Department of Agriculture Nutrient Management Program personnel. The goal of the Nutrient Management Program is to improve water quality in Delaware while maintaining the profitability of agriculture and other businesses involved in land application of nutrients. This is a 100% Extension, grant-funded position with reappointment annually contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Coordinate and complete an urban horticulture stakeholder (e.g., lawn and landscape companies, golf courses, turfgrass managers, and public land managers) educational needs assessment in cooperation with Delaware Department of Agriculture in support of the Delaware Nutrient Management Certification program.
Develop, coordinate, and deliver relevant, culturally-sensitive educational programs and materials related to nutrient management for an urban horticulture audience. Educate clientele on new practices, procedures, and skills based on the current research.
Coordinate and teach Delaware Nutrient Management Urban Horticulture initial certification sessions and continuing education programs.
Coordinate education efforts with public and private agencies, organizations, and community leaders.
Participate in program evaluation activities to document program impact related to the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Plan of Work.
Prepare marketing materials and strategies for promotion of urban horticulture nutrient management related Extension programs. Use social media, newsletters, and other avenues to promote the nutrient management programing and educational materials.
Assist with program administrative duties, which may include responding to phone and email inquiries regarding certification and continuing education, tracking continuing education credits in Sales Force, and managing program data.
Participate in grant-writing to secure funding for the Delaware Nutrient Management Extension program.
Serve on county and state Extension committees and committees with public and private agencies, local and professional organizations, and community leaders as directed by Extension specialist/agent.
Provide program data required to assist in completing county, state, and national reporting.

Understand and ensure compliance with UD/CANR/Cooperative Extension policies and procedures.
Maintain and improve professional competence through formal and non-formal courses and conferences, as well as other professional development opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience, or Master’s degree in turfgrass management, horticulture, plant science, or a related discipline preferred.
Experience with Extension or adult education methods.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Good organizational, time-management, and human relations skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills are required.
Ability to effectively present information on an individual/group basis with individuals of various educational levels.
Familiarity and experience with online communications vehicles, including e-mail, web communications, social media, etc.
Special Requirements: Position requires some evening and weekend work. Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation required. Employment is contingent upon passing a comprehensive background investigation including fingerprints/criminal history, which indicates that the individual is suitable for employment in compliance with applicable federal and/or state regulations.
