Duties of Position
Provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Center for Student Veterans & Military Connected Students, Student Veterans Association, and multicultural initiatives by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to provide resources and services.
Coordinates and monitors daily operations of the Center for Student Veterans & Military-Connected Students.
Creates and administers the annual budget and goals for the Center. Develops and administers yearly assessment plans to evaluate usage, effectiveness, and satisfaction with the Veteran’s programs and services.
Provides planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of events and activities conducive to student veteran development and success, as well as oversee development, and operation of special projects and programs.
Applies an in depth knowledge to explain the usage of VA educational benefits, to include application process, advisement of various educational benefits available to veterans and dependents, and directs students concerning eligibility for benefits.
Develops campus and community engagement opportunities for student Veterans.
Collaborates closely with key Harper College departments including Financial Aid, One Stop, Advising, Counseling, Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Access and Disability Services to ensure effective student veteran support services.
Collaborates with community partners and Veteran services organizations to offer information, programs, and workshops for Harper Veterans and military-connected students; schedules such opportunities within the Center or on campus as practical.
Serves on the Student Veterans Advisory Committee.
Oversight of Student Involvement multicultural initiatives including, but not limited to: coordination of celebration months (i.e. Latinx Heritage Month, PRIDE Week, Black History Month), and student diversity workshops.
Collaborates with internal and external partners for programming opportunities.
Student Clubs and Organizations:
Serves as primary staff advisor to the Student Veterans Association (SVA) and assists with the production of major student programs, including Veterans Day event, Veteran BBQ, and Green Zone.
Participates in and attends all Student Veterans Association events, and assists in the recruitment and retention of student leaders through student engagement.
Provides critical monthly reports on all activities, general body meetings, and inquiries.
2-years’ community college/university student programming experience required and working with student Veterans preferred. Green Zoned training is a requirement within the first 6 months of employment. Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
