The Director will report to the Managing Director and will be responsible for assisting in developing policy and regulatory options for the IES Governing Board, working groups, and committees that primarily focus on federal, state, and international policy and regulations impacting industrial biotechnology. The Director will staff IES working group(s), committee(s) and IES board level committees as needed.
Provide policy and regulatory guidance to the IES members on industrial biotechnology
Monitor Agency activities, track federal register notices, and monitor BIO’s submissions of comments
Research, analyze and develop memoranda on federal regulations impacting BIO member companies
Draft regulatory comments as needed
Conduct outreach and advocacy on behalf of member companies to regulatory agencies
Serve as lead staff for the IES Regulatory Affairs Committee, and coordinate with FAS regulatory lead on matters of overlapping or joint interest.
Develop policy papers and other supporting documents for lobbying/advocacy visits on Capitol Hill and to the Agencies
Work with the section Managing Director to develop policy and advocacy strategies
Assist in developing press and advocacy materials as needed
Follow up on BIO IES section member requests, emails, telephone calls, etc.
Organize technical content for BIO conferences including overseeing breakout programming for the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology
Make public presentations at technical conferences and meetings organized by other associations or entities
Travel to domestic and international conferences as needed
Assist in seeking out and recruiting new BIO IES members and sponsors to IES supported events
Work cooperatively within all departments of BIO to achieve BIO and IES goals.

Excellent analytical and writing skills
Regulatory process knowledge and experience a must
Knowledge of agriculture, biobased products, renewable chemicals, environment and energy policy a must
Technical knowledge about industrial and environmental biotechnology helpful
Some knowledge of biology, chemistry or biotechnology a must
Superb communication and interpersonal skills, both in person and over the phone
Exceptionally detail oriented and organized
Ability to work as part of a team
8 to 10 years in workforce. Experience in federal government or Capitol Hill useful. Legal and/or science background preferred.
Master’s degree or law degree preferred.
