Computer Science and Mathematics faculty at Whitworth University operate in a friendly, fun atmosphere that encourages interaction between one another and students. Most classes are taught in computer labs with an emphasis on gaining practical hands-on experience, as well as a strong base of theoretical knowledge. Primary teaching opportunities:
Duties include teaching both advanced and introductory undergraduate-level courses to a diverse group of students. Courses taught would include introductory coding courses, and upper-division courses as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. New and innovative curriculum related to one's area of expertise could also be developed.
Possibility of developing new courses that contribute to the university’s innovative, interdisciplinary Shared Curriculum. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental activities and governance; professional and research activities, mentoring students in research opportunities, attending state, regional and national professional association meetings; attending faculty assemblies, development days, and retreat, serving on committees and advising.
Required job knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Evidence of promise in effectiveness at college-level teaching (demonstrated effectiveness preferred)
A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
Ability to further develop our curriculum in the candidate’s area of expertise
Strong potential for an on-going stream of research in the candidate’s area of specialization
Desire and commitment for increasing the effectiveness in establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical limitations, or religious faith (evidence of experience preferred)

Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral English
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent. Applicants with a Master’s degree and exceptional experience in artificial intelligence or cybersecurity will be considered.
Additional Salary Information: For a truly exceptional candidate, an appointment at the level of Associate Professor will be considered.
