The Missouri Institute for Defense and Energy (MIDE) within the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) is looking for applicants to fulfill the role of an Assistant Research Professor. We are seeking outstanding candidates with innovative and cutting-edge research in electrical engineering, with emphasis on radio frequency (RF) design and simulation.
The incumbent will standup a new RF research group that will perform advanced RF design, simulation, and characterization of system and subsystem level components to include circuit boards, antennas, and other special projects optimized for high power RF operation. A successful candidate will have proven experience in optimizing circuits and components for RF operation utilizing more sophisticated techniques beyond industry accepted standards. Example techniques may include the use of full or partial analytical techniques based on electromagnetic theory for optimization of circuit board layout/design and analysis.
As a research/academic position it is expected that the incumbent will lead and mentor up to two graduate and four undergraduate students. The ability to perform research and support students will be highly dependent on the incumbent securing funding through proposal writing no later than 18 months after appointment to the position.
Mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students
Obtain funding to support research in the areas of electrical and RF engineering through successful proposal writing
Characterize and perform fundamental analysis of novel antennas designs
Design, simulate/model, and characterize RF components and special RF projects as detailed by projects, proposals, and collaborators
Design, simulate, and analyze printed circuit boards for RF applications utilizing advanced techniques to accelerate board layout design and analysis
Publish in relevant scientific/engineering journals and present posters/talks at conferences at least two times/year
PhD in electrical engineering, physics or comparable field of study
Experience in the development or characterization of RF components and high speed digital circuits
Experience in suitable modeling/simulation software used in RF design and characterization including FEKO, CST and/or COMSOL
PhD in Electrical engineering, physics or comparable field of study
3 years of experience designing, modeling, or analyzing circuits and their component layout using advanced electromagnetic theory such as full or partial analytical Green's functions
Documented track record of publishing or presenting journal articles, presentations, or posters for scientific/engineering journals or conferences
Experience in some (preferably all) high frequency oscilloscopes, wave form generators, pulsed power sources, vector network analyzers, and other comparable technologies utilized in the characterization of RF components
Previous experience working with/mentoring students
Full Time/Part Time
Starting salary range is $47,476 - $55,000
