Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, Maintenance and Operations and daily work direction of the Warehouse and Mail Services Lead, the Laborer performs general manual labor and supports the operations of the mailroom and warehouse.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist in event set-up/take-down and residence hall closures. Relocate faculty and staff offices, furniture, workstations, and equipment. Load, transport, and unload furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies utilizing a variety of powered and non-powered materials-handling equipment (e.g. hand trucks, power fork lift, large trucks, desk movers, dollies, carts, power lift gates, etc.). Employ special handling techniques when required for transport of fragile, toxic, inflammable or short shelf-life goods.
Receive, check, pick-up, store, and move materials, supplies and heavy objects, such as furniture and equipment. Assemble and disassemble furniture. Take accurate inventory of storage items.
Remove and haul waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation, specials events, and special clean-up sites. Clean assigned areas, including such activities as removing debris; cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage structures; power washing assigned areas; cleaning roadsides, streets and related areas; cleaning applicable equipment; and assisting in other cleaning projects. Clean delivery vehicles, moving equipment, work and storage areas as scheduled.
Pick up intercampus mail from departments. Receive, sort and deliver US mail and packages to correct staff and departments from the central mail room. Weigh, stamp or run outgoing US mail through a meter mailing machine. Accurately interpret postage rate charts and regulations. Accurately apply postage rates. Maintain accurate daily accounting of all postage. Compile and report monthly billing to all centers, and keep accurate account of monthly postage costs. Ensure proper processing of mass mailings of printed and packaged materials to meet necessary deadlines. Arrange for pickup and delivery of mail by Federal Express, UPS, etc. Assist with the input of received items in PeopleSoft/Oracle (CFS) or other information management system. Clean and perform basic maintenance on mailroom equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position and follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; perform regular strenuous manual labor; and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds.
One year of experience performing general manual labor or working in a warehouse or shipping and receiving facility. Experience operating propane-powered and electric forklift, other materials handling equipment, pickup truck with power lift gate, and motor vehicles (one-half to two ton capacities). Ability to: communicate in a professional manner; keep simple records and prepare simple reports; match names and numbers, and make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately; spell correctly; and apply safe methods for lifting and moving heavy supplies and equipment. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse academic environment. Ability to: operate a Pitney Bowes Paragon Mail Center 2000 or similar mail processing equipment; use PeopleSoft or equivalent management information system and utilize modern shipping and receiving technologies.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
This position will have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to victims of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and stalking as required by CSU Executive Order 1095.
This position has been designated as a sensitive position with responsibility for the care, safety and security of people (including children and minors), animals and CSU property; responsibility or access/possession of building master or sub-master keys for building access; access to controlled or hazardous substances and responsibility for operating commercial vehicles, machinery or equipment that could pose environmental hazards or cause injury, illness, or death.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority, will be required to participate in annual training, and to immediately forward to the Clery Compliance Officer all reports of Clery Act crimes brought to their attention.
Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the Universitys liability coverage.
May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
Maintenance environment with a high level of background noise. Position requires working indoors in university buildings, outdoors, and on campus grounds year-round, including during inclement weather. Includes working in the presence of loud noise, vibration, dark and/or confined spaces, moving mechanical parts, dust, automobile exhaust and paint fumes. Requires the use of a video display terminal and standard office equipment. Requires travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
Position requires full range of motion to perform strenuous manual labor, including but not limited to, lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 50 pounds (moving up to 100 pounds is required rarely) and moving up to three hundred (300) pound items (desks, refrigerators, lab equipment, etc.) with the use of moving equipment. This position also requires sitting, standing, bending, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, applying force, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Employees who are not initially eligible upon hire date for CalPERS retirement membership are required to participate in the PST Retirement Program in lieu of Social Security. Employees enrolled in this program contribute 7.5% of their gross wages, on a pre-tax basis, to a retirement account that is available after separation of employment.
