The Executive Diversity Officer (EDO) is responsible for all aspects of planning and implementation to promote, educate and advocate for institutional diversity excellence for traditionally under-represented students at Lake Superior College (LSC). This position will develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive plan for the recruitment and retention of students with a special focus on students from diverse backgrounds. This position will advocate for diversity; support the connection between mindfulness and equity; and plan and implement diversity, equity and inclusion programming and celebrations of diversity for the college community. This position will network with community agencies and provide referrals based on student need. The position will serve as the lead for the United Students Club and represent the College at local, state and regional multicultural meetings, conferences, workshops or other gatherings.
Bachelors degree required in sociology, psychology, counseling, education or related field.
2 years of diversity and program coordination experience.
Demonstrated understanding of and experience working with academically, culturally, racially, and socio-economically diverse populations.
Knowledge of post-secondary education systems.
Knowledge of college and high school academic processes, financial aid procedures, and the application processes.
Experience in academic and career advising.
Strong organizational, oral & written communications, interpersonal and intercultural skills required.
Knowledge of area resources for supporting individuals and families in need.
Knowledge of affirmative action processes, along with federal, state and local policies.
Ability to build effective professional and community relationships.
Proven history of developing, implementing and assessing diversity programming.
Experience in handling disputes related to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights.
