Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for an entry-level, full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Theater with a starting date in August 2020.
The Department of Theater at Brooklyn College is one of New York's leading institutions in the training of Actors, Directors, Stage Designers, Performing Arts Managers and Theater Technicians. The Department offers undergraduate degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Theater, The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, in Design and Technical Theater and the Master of Fine Arts with concentrations in Acting, Directing, Design and Technical Theater, and Performing Arts Management.
The department seeks a candidate to be responsible to:
Teach undergraduate and graduate acting courses in an area of acting specialization(s) and in conjunction with the head of the MFA Acting concentration, coordinate the BFA concentration in Acting.
Serve in the shared governance structure at all levels of the College
Provide guidance, advisement and mentoring to students
Continue to participate in professional performing arts activities within the area of expertise to fulfill the tenure requirements.
It is additionally desirable that the candidate direct as a part of the department's season of produced plays once established in the role. Candidates given strongest consideration will have professional experience in acting or directing and demonstrate the potential for national recognition. Additional areas of expertise will be taken into consideration.
