Department Description This position is located within the Medical Surveillance program, a unit of the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The program has 36 state and government contracts, each ranging from $30,000 to $3.5 million. The core activities of the COEH are to educate future leaders in occupational and environmental health, develop new knowledge, and bring the resources of the University of California to people affected by health hazards in their workplaces or communities. The Nurse Practitioner provides occupational health services such as pre-employment, DMV, Respiratory, Hazardous Materials, and POST physicals, as well as immunizations to meet the health and safety needs of various companies, state and government agencies throughout California. Services are provided by the Nurse Practitioner and support staff working under the direction of the Medical Director. Operational direction would come from Program Manager. Examinations are provided on-site with our mobile medical unit and also subcontracted to various occupational health clinics throughout California. To provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures for your specific department. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NP's are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff. Required Qualifications
One year or greater experience as a nurse practitioner
Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
Possession of valid California RN and Nurse Practitioner license
DEA within 3 months of hire
National NP board certification in an aligned specialty with the practice area
Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
Current BLS and CPR
One year or greater recent clinical experience in occupational medicine is highly desireable
Knowledge in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine
Knowledge of OSHA and NIOSH regulations
NIOSH Spirometry Certificate
FMCSA National Registry
Ability to work flexible hours
Must be able to drive a RV (training will be proviced), Must be able to travel on ocassion with overnight stays (M-F)
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
