UW Medicine’s IT Services department is looking for an outstanding Data Center Operations Lead to join the team! What are we looking for? What are the perks? The Data Center Operations Lead coordinates activities of all data center operators, acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for the physical infrastructure technologies, and actively coordinates many aspects for the multiple internal data center support resources across all sites. This position coordinates support of systems, networks, SANs, and other points of connectivity, and the physical infrastructure environments including power, cooling, and physical security, that are essential for smooth operation of enterprise level systems. This position is repsonsible for vendor and procurement management, and the coordination of ordering, shipping and receiving at each site. The physical infrastructure environment is the fundamental level that supports all enterprise operational systems that UW Medicine depends upon. An understanding of the physical, network connectivity and subsequent operational requirements is critical to the success of various systems. This position exercises discretion, in of identifying tools, technologies, and methods of implementing solutions architectures, effectively coordinating day to day work assignments of team members and identifying technological gaps or opportunities for improvement in infrastructure or processes. It carries out responsibilities requiring a high level of technical expertise and provides insight and counsel to IT and operational management. UW Medicine relies on enterprise wide technological solutions and electronic information to enable the quickest and most reliable health care for its customers. These systems must be available on a 24x7 basis in order to allow Physicians and Nursing staff access to vital patient information. If the systems are not available the potential for lost revenue and patient life is very real. Not only is the availability of the information but also the security of the information of the highest priority. The availability and the security of the information are of the highest priority. UW Medicine data centers currently include seven sites, with multiple points of integration as well as multiple potential points of failure. The physical infrastructure is the foundational level that supports all enterprise systems that UW Medicine depends upon. If the basic infrastructure isn't carefully managed, (the primary responsibility of this position), a change or problem in one part of the infrastructure can impact many systems, which may result in multiple system malfunctions, hardware failures, downtime, or delays across the UW Medicine enterprise.
