The Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) at Brookhaven is a DOE-funded national scientific user facility, offering users a supported research experience with top-caliber scientists and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation. The CFN mission is advancing nanoscience through frontier fundamental research and technique development and is the nexus of a broad collaboration network. Each year, CFN staff members support the research of nearly 600 external facility users.
Three strategic nanoscience themes underlie the CFN scientific facilities: The CFN conducts research on nanomaterial synthesis by assembly designing precise architectures with targeted functionality by organizing nanoscale components. The CFN researches and applies platforms for state-of-the-art techniques for Accelerated Nanomaterial Discovery, integrating synthesis, advanced characterization, physical modeling, and computer science to iteratively explore a wide range of material parameters. The CFN develops and utilizes advanced capabilities for studies of Nanomaterials in Operando Conditions for characterizing materials and reactions at the atomic scale in real-world environments.
The CFN is searching for an accomplished professional to be the Assistant Director for Operations. In this leadership role, you will oversee day-to-day administrative and operational functions, ensuring the efficient, effective, and safe operations that are essential to the CFN success. You will report to the CFN Director and manage the CFN operations-related groups, which include the administrative, operations, and user office groups. Working with these groups, you will develop and implement processes to enhance coordination and operational efficiency. You will work closely with the Science Group Leaders to coordinate preparation of recurring strategy and performance reports. You will oversee the CFN yearly budget planning and execution. You will use your excellent communication and collaboration skills to foster an operational environment conducive to the highest quality nanoscience research.
As the Assistant Director for Operations, you will have these roles and responsibilities:
You will oversee the day-to-day CFN operations and keep the Director apprised of significant events, advising the Director on organizational decisions related to operations.
You will participate with the CFN leadership team in making strategic decisions about CFN directions.
You will oversee the functions of the CFN Administrative, Operations, and User Office groups, supervising the Group Leaders and fostering their professional development.
You will develop and implement efficient processes that enhance the coordination and effectiveness of CFN operations.
You will oversee the process of preparing recurring CFN strategy and performance reports, collecting and organizing inputs from contributors and managing the schedule.
You will oversee the yearly budget planning process and provide regular updates on spending.
You are qualified for this role if:
You have outstanding organizational and leadership abilities, have successfully completed complex projects and objectives, and collaborated in a team environment to deliver results;
You understand organizational functions including operations, administrative, and finance;
You have participated in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes;
