Department Summary The Division of Student Life supports the university’s academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life houses four departments, the University Career Readiness Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, and the Department of Physical Education & Recreation, as well as a number of key university programs, including the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Student Government Engagement & Success, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.
The University Career Center serves as the gateway to career services at the University of Oregon, to ensure UO graduates are not only prepared for their first job, but for a lifetime of career success. In conjunction with advising and career services partners across campus, the University Career Center assists UO students in developing long-term career readiness, facilitating self-exploration and discovery, connecting with potential employers. The Center also provides comprehensive job search services and resources to UO students and alumni.
Position Summary The Job and Internship Developer is responsible for identifying, building, maintaining and reporting outcomes on relationships with local, regional and national employers in order to increase part- and full-time employment, internship and volunteer opportunities for UO students through active networking and outreach.
The Job and Internship Developer also identifies opportunities on campus to engage employers and members of their networks to become involved in and support the career readiness of UO students through various ways, including events and networking activities, Center employer programs, student club activities, class presentations, and engagement with faculty/staff throughout campus.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Employer Engagement and positioned on the Employer Engagement Team, the person in this role must be a strategic, data-driven, results-oriented professional dedicated to actively creating relationships with employers to increase part-time job, internship and career opportunities and outcomes for UO students. This position may oversee the work of student employees.
Additional Expectations of Position • This position will require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver’s Certification. • Ability to travel locally as well as occasional overnight travel and work non-standard hours, including some nights and weekends.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor's degree. • Three years of related experience in recruitment/human resources, sales/marketing/fundraising, corporate program development, employer engagement, job development, career services, higher education or other related field.
Professional Competencies • Demonstrated abilities in and/or commitment to working effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment. • Knowledge of employers and industry, job market trends, Department of Labor internship rules under the Fair Labor Standards Act, job search and recruiting strategies, employer relations, contemporary recruitment practices and/or trends in career services. • Demonstrated track record of success in partnering, developing, and maintaining successful long-term client relationships. • Demonstrated skills in public speaking; experience delivering training to individuals and groups. • Ability to analyze data, run reports and share assessment results. • Ability to use technology to make processes more efficient. • Demonstrated competency to assess, organize and prioritize multiple tasks with a strategic lens and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of best practices in career development and an understanding of the principles of student development. • Previous job development or employer engagement experience.
