The Caseworker position provides initial screening and assessment for services and assesses clients for safety, as well as performs administrative and back-up supervisory duties as support to manager. Duties of this position include initial assessment and referral; interacting with families, assisting clients with navigating the system and recording documentation or providing support in community. Program areas served include, but are not limited to: screening, intake, and ongoing casework for child and adult protection and foster care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
Collects information regarding child or adult protection referrals and provides initial assessment including: assessing safety and risk, identifying appropriate resources, and determining appropriate response modes.
Actively carries a modified caseload as determined by the supervisor to retain valuable skills.
Conducts investigations based on child or adult protection referrals as outlined by Volume 7 rules and regulations and initiates appropriate actions which could include removal of clients from unsafe environments and/or petition for court involvement.
Actively participates in family engagement meetings, either in caseworker or supervisory role, ensuring options are explored in relation to the safety and placement decisions that are being made.
Develops and updates plans of service, monitors and documents clients’ activities and progress in case plan objectives, and maintains and updates clients’ records and files.
Provides testimony and recommendations to Court; communicates with attorneys and other professionals.
Provides crisis interventions, or may assist peers with the same, requiring timely response to address critical and emergency needs of clients.
May assist in orienting or training new employees in regard to county functions and above-referenced program areas.
Attends department and community-based meetings or local and state committees as assigned. May attend meetings in lieu of manager during scheduling conflicts.
Assists with after-hours, on-call rotation coverage to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Provides back-up coverage and decision-making for supervisor in absence, during business and on-call hours.
Provides adoption services.
Recruits and certifies new foster homes.
Coordinates inter-county and interstate placements.
Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge, skills, and development by attending seminars and training programs and reading trade and professional journals and publications; makes presentations at workshops.
Follows up on inquiries from various agencies/groups regarding department programs and services.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
