The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute at the University of Southern California is seeking an innovative leader with demonstrated national and international track-record to serve as Senior Director of Strategic Alliances.Â In embodying the mission of the Ellison Institute this role is responsible for identifying and building relationships and strategic opportunities with high-level, external stakeholders; developing unique and adaptive business, collaboration, and technology models to enhance the Institute's global presence and value in government, industries, and academic/international organizations.Â This leader works directly with the Chief Executive, Chief Operating, and Chief Scientific and Innovation Officers of the Institute with a central focus of identifying, fostering, and developing global collaborative networks to advance basic, translational, and clinical sciences to reimagine and redefine cancer care.Â
Develop Unique and Adaptive Business, Collaboration, and Technology Models
- Partners internally with the scientific faculty and leadership team to develop/ensure a holistic and integrated clinical research strategy that leverages national and international experts.Â
- Fosters a translational inter-Institute mindset to enhance biomarker discovery, therapeutic development, and novel adaptive clinical trial designs.
- Create an overall strategic plan for reaching-out and building industrial, non-profit, and academic collaborations that align with Ellison Instituteâs initiatives.
Applicant must possess a doctoral level degree (e.g., Ph.D. or M.D.) in a field related to biological, physical, or health sciences.Â Ideal candidate will have a trans-disciplinary science background, with significant demonstrated experience in biomarker discovery, therapeutic development, and adaptive clinical trial design as well as experiences in academic, government, and industry settings.Â Applicants must be recognized as leaders in their respective fields.Â Applicants must have experience communicating and driving relationships with government agencies, pharmaceutical partners, and technical representatives.Â Experience with managing operational budget, scientific contractors and scientific research operations.
10-15 years managing scientific staff (including PhD scientists).Â
Experienced working in a fast-paced matrix organization.Â
Preferred experiences in immunology, chemistry, clinical assay development, microscopy, and nanotechnology.Â Experience with clinical regulatory compliance. Excellent oral and written communication.Â

Experience in developing and/or managingbudgets.
