The MyDay Technology Lead serves and is accountable as the strategic and directional leader for technical aspects of the MyDay program. The MyDay program is working across multiple technology domains, platforms, and technical environments that require a level of alignment and coordination to ensure that they are sustainable, supportable, and operationally effective post go-live. The technology lead is responsible for integrating technology decisions across all the projects under MyDay to ensure that there is alignment between the projects, overall direction, and with the enterprise applications organization as we are both planning and preparing for ongoing management and support. The role is designed to organization decisions, make recommendations to leadership, and ensure that the teams and technical resources are aligned to the set direction and items that areas that become in conflict with that direction are addressed strategically.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy & Leadership
Responsible for the development of an overall technology strategy for MyDay that is focused on supporting the shift to the cloud, leveraging modern (non-proprietary) technology to support a sustainable, supportable, and adaptable platform for the University. The strategy should align technical components across the program as well as integrate with the other cloud platforms and efforts within the IT and Enterprise Applications organizations at WashU.
Accountable for working with leadership in both the program and IT to ensure that the strategy is understood and maintained throughout the course of the program. Ensure that the right resources and leadership are involved in the development and changes of the strategy.
Responsible for leading the planning process for the implementation of the strategy across the program and organization.
Accountable for working directly with project and program management to ensure that program and project plans are aligned with the strategy and are not at odds with each other.
Accountable for the continuous improvement and adapting of the strategy as changes occur, or new impacts are discovered that must be addressed in order for the program and other initiatives to remain on track.
Team and Organizational Alignment
Regularly meet with the technical resources assigned to the various project tracks to ensure they remain aligned to the defined direction, and keep them aware of what is going on in other areas that may impact them.
Accountable for pulling together technical teams as issues and/or needs arise to gather input discussion challenges, and facilitate to resolution.
Accountable for partnering with leadership in the IT organization to ensure that alignment is maintained through changes and updates.
Responsible for ensuring that needs and demands that are arising outside of the program are understood and incorporated where necessary.
Actively engage with the IT organization on a regular basis to share updates, discuss progress, acknowledge lessons learned, and address challenges.
Accountable for ensuring that once decisions or direction are set they are maintained. Serve as the facilitator/manager of those decisions. Ensure that there are rules and process for the evaluation of items that conflict with the stated direction or decision.
Convene and lead necessary groups to either evaluate new decisions or re-evaluate a stance that has been taken. Ensure that the group(s) come to resolution.
Exercise appropriate judgement in implementing decisions and maintaining direction.
Issue & Escalation Management
Serve as the primary escalation point for technology related issues in the program. As issues arise in the projects, project managers should work with appropriate leads, and this roles should serve as the primary point of escalation of technical issues prior to them going to the program office.
Ensure that issues are logged, assigned to the correct resources, and are being addressed and mitigated in a timely fashion.
Ensure that appropriate issues are escalated to the program office for decisions or decision making by the executives.
Ensure that all appropriate parties are aware of relevant issues that are occurring and where they are in the process of resolution.
Pull together appropriate groups to identify options for resolution of issues where necessary.
Recommendation & Decision Management
Ensure that decisions needed are identified and effectively defined along with appropriate options.
Ensure that timelines and impacts of decisions are understood and effectively articulated so that non-technical resources can understand the need and what the options are.
Represent the technical teams to the executives where necessary to facilitate decisions and approach discussions.
Technical Resource Planning & Coordination
Manage the technical leads to ensure that they are defining necessary activities, work plans, working with project managers, and providing timeline updates.
Actively manage issues that arise with the leads and various project work tracks that fall under the scope of this role.
Work with the leads and project managers to evaluate the project and strategy needs to define resource needs, timelines, and identify options. Ensure that resource needs are communicated quickly and appropriately to the program office.
Engage directly with vendors where necessary to define scopes of work, resource needs, conduct interviews/screenings, and address problems wher they arise.
Ensure that recruitment is proceeding on resource needs to ensure that the projects and work efforts remain on schedule.
Service as an escalation point from the leads for project resource issues when they occur.
Coordinate with the IT organization on resource issues, development, planning, and overall direction.

Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field with 10 years of progressive experience in information technology working within a complex organizational structure including coordinating the work of others
Ability to engage business users to use new and better administrative technology solutions
Supervisory experience, including hiring and mentoring a high performance team
Excellent communication and motivation skills and ability to interact appropriately with senior level colleagues and partners
Experience managing external vendor relationships
Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies
Experience in organizations with multiple divisions or locations that operate with a high level of autonomy
Exceptional listening skills with the ability to separate objective and subjective messages and to align the decision making criteria of multiple individuals
Demonstrated strong customer service skills with ability to establish credibility and trust with personnel at all levels and from multiple disciplines
MBA or MS in quantitative field
Experience working in Higher Education
Experience developing IT strategic plans
Experience functioning as a CTO or in a CTO style function for a large organizations.
Experience with Applicable Technologies (i.e. Workday, MuleSoft, Azure, etc.)
Proven experience developing technical/organizational strategic plans and approaches for applications, projects, roadmaps, and engaging with the organization, vendors, consultants and others to develop.Experience socializing and articulating strategies to teams, executives, and other organizational leaders.
Excellent understanding and experience with administrative systems and services including implementation of both vended and custom developed solutions
Experience with technology project lifecycles (i.e. business process analysis, design, programming, implementation and on-going support of business solutions)
Experience in growing and managing teams responsible for support of enterprise administration applications; defining, scoping, implementing, and managing technology solutions
Experience coaching resources that may or may not report to you in order to development them as project team members and deliver.
Experience in establishing and leveraging organizational and technical governance processes.
Experience leading, contributing, and organizing teams, strategies, and plans for large development/implementation style initiatives.

The hiring range for this position is $125,403 - $166,150 annually.
