Position Summary: Reporting to the Provost and a key member of the Provost's leadership team, the Associate Provost for Academic Success (APAS) leads the college's efforts in fostering student academic achievement and completion. The APAS promotes student academic success leading to degree completion by pursuing a strategy that combines the implementation of a program of high-impact learning practices with strong academic support services. The APAS recommends policies and supports programs that offer all students the greatest opportunity for academic success.
The APAS oversees the Dean of Academic Planning and Advising and academic programs in general to ensure inclusive and equitable support for students as they persist and complete their degree programs. The APAS articulates the College's vision for student support by integrating campus-wide tutoring, learning centers, and supplemental instruction. On behalf of the Office of the Provost, the APAS adjudicates grade appeals and receives and responds to student concerns about the quality of instruction.
The APAS oversees programs that directly engage with integrative and applied learning and internationalization, including the College's Center for Integrative Learning (CIL) and the Study Abroad Office. The APAS advises the Provost on opportunities to enhance integrative learning at the college, including service learning, integrated interdisciplinary programming, internships, community-engaged learning, and other high-impact learning opportunities.
The APAS serves as a key contact point between the Division of Academic Affairs and other divisions, particularly Student and Campus Life, in ensuring student success. The APAS works collaboratively with others across the campus to build opportunities for and expand co-curricular, integrative learning, and high impact practices, including living and learning communities.
The APAS works actively with the Provost's committee on retention on all matters that pertain to student retention and academic achievement, monitoring student retention rates overall and for at-risk populations, and initiating and assessing efforts to improve retention and degree completion. The APAS advises the Provost and college governance bodies, such as the Strategic Planning Group, on matters related to student retention and success.
Four critical positions related to student support report to the APAS: the Dean of Academic Planning and Advising, the Director of the Center for Integrative Learning, the Director of Study Abroad, and the Director of National Fellowships and Scholarships.
Required Qualifications Terminal degree in an academic field of study offered at Geneseo. Demonstrated successful teaching experience in an academic program. Progressively more responsible work experience in higher education institution(s). Demonstrated commitment to fostering student academic success. Knowledge of student success concepts, theories, and/or practice. Experience working with faculty, other academic partners, and administrators in a higher education setting. Experience teaching advising, leading, and mentoring students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, differing levels of academic preparation, and varying physical and learning abilities. Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to create vision; innovate; motivate; handle and delegate responsibilities; give, listen to, and act on feedback; resolve conflict; and solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications PhD in an academic field of study offered at Geneseo.
Eight or more years teaching experience in an academic program.
