Founded in 1996, the QEII Foundation fundraises and inspires generosity to advance health care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. With financial support from all levels of the community, the Foundation helps fund new technologies, medical research, innovation and professional education that contribute to life-changing moments experienced every day by patients and their loved ones. On an annual basis, the QEII Foundation raises an average of $21 million in revenue with net income of $15 million to fund key priorities that align donor interests and those that transform health care today and for the future. The QEII serves as the Halifax community hospital for immediate care and emergency services, as well as the specialized care centre for Atlantic Canada in areas such as heart health, cancer care, neurosurgery, and organ transplantation. The Foundation fulfills its mission by collaborating with clinicians and health professionals, researchers, governments, philanthropists, community leaders, donors, and volunteers.
The Foundation is embarking on its most ambitious chapter - one that will directly improve health outcomes and the wellbeing of the community over the next 50 years. With the catalyst of the Nova Scotia government’s anticipated $2 billion investment in QEII New Generation, the Foundation is preparing to launch the largest capital campaign in its history, and in fact, the largest healthcare fundraising campaign ever in Atlantic Canada. The capital campaign and redevelopment of the QEII Health Sciences Centre is a once in a generation opportunity for generous donors to be part of transforming the way health care is delivered.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President and CEO is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Foundation and for ensuring that the mission, vision and values of the organization are achieved. The CEO proactively engages with internal and external partners and stakeholders to align on fundraising priorities, ensure donor impact and health outcomes, and deliver on financial results. The CEO personally promotes and emulates high ethical standards in fundraising, volunteerism and philanthropy. The CEO leads by example in fostering a high-performance team and instilling a mission-driven culture. The CEO has an in-depth understanding of good governance practices and maintains compliance with legal, regulatory and ethical standards and requirements and demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency in communications and actions. The CEO is accountable for achieving annual fundraising goals and overseeing capital campaigns, including setting priorities, developing the case for support, recruiting and supporting volunteer leaders and cultivating and stewarding relationships with potential transformational donors. The CEO ensures a diverse portfolio of revenue generating activities including major gift programs, special events, planned and annual giving and the QEII Home Lottery. A key contributor and collaborator in creating a patient-centered integrated health system, the CEO has strong relationships with trustees, health and research foundations, governments and health authorities and fosters alignment to anticipate and meet future health needs.
The successful candidate is an influential, dynamic and inspirational leader with a track record of at least 10 years of executive leadership experience, delivering on philanthropic goals, preferably with experience in or a personal connection to a health mission. Experience within the non-profit sector or a social service organization is an asset. A master communicator, the successful candidate will have led a fundraising function of comparable scope and influence and is a thought leader in philanthropic next generation thinking. They are adept at strategic planning, human resources and financial management, and have a strong understanding of fundraising methodology and technology. An understanding of good governance practices is required. The successful candidate has a university degree in a relevant discipline, with an advanced degree and/or professional development in management or leadership.
