The Physician Assistant Department at Point Loma Nazarene University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position as Director of Clinical Education beginning in the Spring of 2020. The Director of Clinical Education serves as a full-time with rank appropriate to the applicant’s experience. Point Loma Nazarene University’s Physician Assistant Program is a developing program with the projected start date of Fall 2021.
The Director of Clinical Education will perform tasks as a principal faculty member as well as will work alongside the Program Director to provide exceptional leadership and academic instruction to the faculty and staff in the clinical curriculum of the program. The Director of Clinical Education will have one day of release time to support involvement in clinical practice or scholarship.
Oversees the clinical portion of the Department of Physician Assistant Education curriculum
Assists Chair in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program
Participates in the assessment and governance of the Dept of PA Education
Develops, assesses and schedules clinical rotation sites appropriate for students’ clinically supervised training
Oversees student assessment and acquisition of clinical competencies
Provides guidance, training, and ongoing communication for clinical preceptors
Facilitates one learning community and acts as advisor to its members
Provides for the continuous review and update of all clinical course materials and learning objectives
Reviews preceptor licensure and board certification status to ensure ARC Standards compliance
Assists in other duties as assigned by the Program Chair
Participates in lab or clinical skills sessions and examinations as appropriate
Chairs the Clinical Curriculum Committee
Member of the Admissions and Student Progress and Promotions committees
Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program
Minimum of a master’s degree – doctorate preferred
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a physician assistant in California.
Prior academic experience preferred but not required
