Program Assistant, Veterans and the Arts
George Mason University’s Veterans and the Arts Initiative seeks qualified candidates for a part-time Program Assistant. This position will support the Hylton Center's Veterans and the Arts Initiative by facilitating workshops and special events, as well as assisting with administrative tasks.
The primary focus of this position will be in support of community engagement through the arts. The program assistant will report to the program director of the Veterans and the Arts Initiative and work closely with Hylton Center staff. This position is responsible for facilitating workshops, completing tasks during community engagement programming, and completing administrative tasks as assigned. This includes:
Attend and facilitate and/or co-facilitate workshops and special events for the Veterans and the Arts Initiative (including some weeknights and weekends);
Determine workshop and special event rosters and communication information regarding registration, scheduling, etc.;
Attend some external meetings to share information about community programs;
Bachelors or Master's degree in the arts, education, social sciences, health sciences, and/or related fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Understanding of the U.S. Military and Veteran communities (and stay aware of news, opportunities, and changes);
Understanding of higher education workspaces and non-profit workspaces;
Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously;
Enjoy working with a diverse group of community members from children through older adults;
Able to set up and put away folding chairs, music stands, and signs before and after workshops and special events;
High level of initiative and ability to work productively with limited supervision;
Attention to detail in administrative tasks;
Excellent punctuality, organization, and time management skills;
Ability to work under pressure, in conditions with potential for ambiguity and quick change, and maintain a professional demeanor;
Ability to efficiently multitask;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Ability to work as an effective team member; and
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer aptitude, including experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
