Rutgers, the State University Of New Jersey is seeking a Faculty Development Specialist for the Office of Accreditation and Professional Development at the New Jersey Medical School. Through the development, implementation, and management of programs and services related to teaching and learning, the Faculty Development Specialist supports the delivery of high quality inclusive instruction to our diverse student body. This position supports our faculty and department chairs in promoting and supporting innovative and effective teaching practices.
The Faculty Development Specialist will design, implement, manage and evaluate comprehensive faculty professional development programs and execute and use assessment of student learning and program evaluation to improve educational quality and sustain a “culture of evidence” at New Jersey Medical School. In addition, the Faculty Development Specialist will work in collaboration with academic deans and department chairs to ensure that all faculty members receive appropriate faculty development, mentoring, and other support essential for long-term professional advancement. The incumbent for the position will also work directly with the faculty to ensure that they remain innovative and current, with respect to best practices in teaching and student learning outcomes, the pedagogical and tactical use of technology, scholarly research and publications, and professional presentations.
Designs and implements programs to support faculty development and the use of inclusive, effective, and innovative teaching and learning practices.
Engages faculty in the scholarship of teaching and learning, so as to more fully and meaningfully engage students in the act of learning.
Provides consultation to individuals, course and clerkship directors, and departments related to effective teaching.
Organizes weekly, monthly, and annual events focused on innovative and inclusive teaching space and learning, resulting in a full portfolio of trainings designed to improve the student and faculty experience.
Promotes effective and inclusive technology use across the curriculum.
Builds, maintains, and encourages the use of a physical and virtual collection of teaching and learning resources focused on innovative and inclusive pedagogics and methodologies.
Participates in faculty peer observation and mentoring programs.
Projects and assignments as directed by the Office of Accreditation and Professional Development.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field plus four (4) years of progressively more responsible administrative experience in a government agency, university setting or large business office with responsibility for office management, presentation of reports, etc;
Master's Degree plus three (3) years experience as indicated
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with managing programs geared toward career development for high-level academics.
Experience in healthcare related education environment.
EdD/PhD in Education – from an accredited program providing training in a related field.
