This position supports all operations groups, including advising on regulatory issues associated with all transactions, contract review and negotiations, as well as legal matters involving compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements generally. This position provides regulatory guidance related to the company's operations, as well as its clients, vendors and suppliers, particularly relating to regulatory compliance, contract terms and such other areas and activities as may be directed by the Senior Vice President, General Counsel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluate, and support operations in the evaluation of, existing and proposed strategic transactions, including those involving contracts for Conifer Health Solutions activities. Identify and support operations in addressing regulatory compliance risks associated with the same. Support contract negotiations.
Review, interpret, analyze and provide guidance to the company's leadership and operations teams regarding healthcare regulatory requirements as assigned, which may include federal and state privacy and security laws, fraud and abuse laws, and other state and federal agency activities that may impact Coniferï¿½s operations and other Conifer business activities. Support the design and implementation of compliance controls.
Work with the Compliance Department to educate company leadership and operations teams on applicable federal and state regulatory requirements. Interact with client counsel, as well as federal and state regulatory agencies, on the company's behalf as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by Legal department leadership.

Must have extensive experience in supporting healthcare operations, including contract review and negotiation
Must have a thorough understanding of federal and state healthcare regulatory requirements, including government healthcare programs, HIPAA/HITECH and other privacy and security laws, and fraud and abuse laws, in addition to a broad general background in regulatory requirements applicable to the healthcare industry as a whole.
Must have excellent judgment and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to evaluate questions and concerns on healthcare regulatory issues as raised by all appropriate stakeholders and to offer guidance and support that is prompt, clear, practical and in accordance with the companyï¿½s core values and guiding behaviors.
Must be able to manage a varied and high-volume workload, including legally sensitive matters, effectively and without supervision
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience required to perform the job.
Undergraduate degree and law degree from an ABA accredited law school with superior academic credentials.
Licensed to practice law.
Recognized expertise in healthcare regulatory issues. Participation in industry organizations such as AHLA, ABA Health Law Section or HCCA a plus. Writing/speaking experience a plus.
Must have at least 10 years of legal experience in the healthcare industry, with knowledge of payer and provider regulatory issues, HIPAA/HITECH and other privacy and security laws, and fraud and abuse laws.
Prefer at least 5 years of experience working in the in-house legal or compliance department of a healthcare entity.
