The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal government agency under the Department of Health & Human Services is seeking a new Media Relations Officer to direct the Media Relations Group within the Office of Communications. You will be responsible for providing executive leadership in the dissemination of information to the news media across the country pertaining to all CMS programs. This challenging and highly visible career opportunity is located in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC and is only open until 11/21/19.

Specifically, as the Director of the Media Relations Group, you will:

• Plans public affairs strategies on all CMS actions and programs and advises on all matters affecting public information which involve working with or through the news media.
• Reviews and evaluates the information prepared for release to news media has sufficient value to warrant its release on a national basis.
• Directs, plans, prepares, coordinates, evaluates, and edits press releases, news and feature materials, conferences, and briefings for the press and other news media representatives.
• Exercises the full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities in directing first-line supervisors.
• Attends CMS testimonies on Capitol Hill and responds to the media before and after these sessions, standing by CMS officials to help field media questions.
