Job Description Summary
The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) and Orphan Disease Center (ODC) are entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. Our R&D organization has a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core/Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP comparable work, and a large Program for Comparative Medicine (PCM) for animal testing under GLP standards including large animal and rodent vivaria.
The Program for Comparative Medicine (PCM) is currently looking for an IACUC Specialist.
Under the Supervision of the Director, PCM , Veterinary & Clinical Support, the IACUC Specialist has responsibility for advising and assisting researchers within the Gene Therapy Program (GTP) with IACUC protocol procedure design, approval, and implementation including amendments and de novo protocols, to evaluate gene therapies while incorporating the 3 Rs of research (refine, reduce, replace); developing, implementing, and running a post-approval monitoring program across small and large animal programs; reviewing and revising GTP SOPs to be in accordance with approved IACUC procedures and University policies; and finally ensuring that GTP is in compliance with regulations governing humane and ethical treatment and use of laboratory animals. CPIA required.
This position requires strong organizational skills, diplomacy and accuracy to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline and at least 3-5 years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology experience in the area of pre-clinical pharmacology or toxicology testing performed under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP; 21CFR, Part 58) or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. - CPIA requiredÂ - USDA accreditation within 6 months of employment preferred - Ability to obtain DEA registration. - Excellent organizational and project management skills. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Programs. - Experience conducting research in a USDA or FDA regulated environment preferred. - Current and relevant working knowledge of regulations governing the use of animals in teaching and research (e.g., USDA, PHS, AAALAC) preferred.
