The Oregon Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (OR-FACE) Program at OHSU is seeking to fill a part-time fatality investigator position at the rank of Research Associate. OR-FACE is a research program funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The OR-FACE fatality investigator will report to Dr. Ryan Olson (OR-FACE Project Director, https://www.ohsu.edu/oregon-institute-occupational-health-sciences/ryan-olson-lab) and work closely with the OR-FACE project manager. The mission of OR-FACE is to prevent occupational fatalities through surveillance, targeted investigation, and outreach.

• Masters degree with major courses in relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree with major courses in field of research and 5 years of relevant experience.
• Three or more years of experience in occupational safety and health practice (private sector, insurance, or government).
• Broad practical and technical understanding of occupational hazards and their elimination and control.
• Experience in one or more high-risk industries, such as construction, transportation, agriculture, health care, commercial fishing, or mining.
• The job involves maintaining and developing relationships with governmental, insurance, business, and management/labor partners (e.g., Oregon OSHA, workers compensation insurers, medical examiner, police, NIOSH, trade associations, labor unions) and our research partner, the Public Health Division of the Oregon Health Authority.
• Experience in injury/incident or fatality investigation, including root cause analysis techniques.
• Ability to write high quality abstract summaries of fatal cases, and full investigation reports.

• Engagement with the regional occupational safety and health community, such as the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association or American Society of Safety Professionals, Oregon chapters.
• A Bachelors or Masters degree in an occupational safety and health discipline is highly desired (e.g., industrial hygiene, industrial engineering, environmental and occupational public health). Certified Safety Professionals or Certified Industrial Hygienists are strongly encouraged to apply, but such certifications are not required.
• Knowledge of, or prior experience using, OR-FACE or NIOSH FACE research and outreach products.
