The Moxie Initiative at CCNY supports faculty, students, community leaders and emerging innovators via programs rooted in creativity, community, and change. Its programs work to incorporate change-making into the mission, culture, and brand identity of CCNY. The goal of the initiative is to foster an educational culture premised on a several core beliefs: that every student has the potential to create meaningful social change; that every academic discipline can be deeply engaged to solve real world problems; and that innovation is a core capacity that should be integrated into each student's unique academic journey. At the behest of the President and the Provost, the Executive Director of the Moxie Initiative is responsible for realizing the mission of the Moxie Initiative at CCNY. The Executive Director will support and supervise two unique yet integrated program spheres of the Moxie Initiative. These two spheres have an integrated model, and work seamlessly together to connect dots and weave a common thread of community, creativity, and change across campus, to unleash potential for transformational social impact. 1) Zahn Innovation Center (ZIC) A start-up incubator for CCNY students that provides hands-on applied learning for the development of ideas, products and services. Incubator services include training, support, prototyping facilities, consulting services, and seed capital to CCNY students, faculty, and alumni pursuing commercial and social business ventures. 2) Campus and Community Engagement Network (CCEN) A faculty support vehicle that promotes a fully engaged, change-making approach to education. This campus wide faculty/staff collaboration has a mission to a) generate new, experiential change-making courses and projects; b) integrate change-making values into interdisciplinary pedagogy and research; and c) weave change-making into the fabric of CCNY education and culture. Reporting to the Office of the Provost, the Moxie Initiative Executive Director works to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities: - Craft an engagement path that enables success for and connections between diverse interests within the Moxie Initiative network;
- Convene CCNY stakeholders and provide ongoing opportunities for engagement to ensure a strong pipeline for faculty and student involvement in the Moxie Initiative;
- Ensures that CCNY's entrepreneurial narrative leads with the framework of creativity, community, and change for all students and disciplines;
- Develop and implement Moxie Initiative program protocol, procedures, and operating policies to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures; educational and student and alumni affairs best practices;
- Supervise the ZIC Director and provide management support for CCEN faculty leadership;
- Work closely with program sphere leaders and their respective teams to build effective strategies and ensure the efficient execution of strategic goals and objectives;
- Work with program sphere leaders to develop and implement coordinated impact measurement plans for new and existing programs;
- Direct management support for the governance committee;
- Plan and execute the following annual activities for the CCEN:
- Workshops, pedagogical trainings, and community building opportunities for CCEN members;
- Semi-annual course innovation grant application and award process;
- Ongoing CCEN recruitment and member support;
- Build a 'First Year Experience Course' based on integrated change-making skills;
- Designing, tracking and reporting impact measurement on an ongoing basis.
- Produce an integrated strategy of campus wide curricular and co-curricular programs and offerings rooted in creativity, community, and change; including but not limited to social innovation, entrepreneurship, and community impact;
- Build an aggressive community stakeholder plan focused on building key relationships and partnerships for both Moxie Initiative project spheres. This includes high-level business entrepreneurs, government officials and community leaders. Engage new funders, program partners, and potential board members. Forge partnerships and strategic alliances with national and international thought-leaders and social innovation networks;
- Maintain and support CCNY's collaborative relationship with the Moxie Foundation and other Moxie Initiative funders and community partners;
- Provide regular progress reports for CCNY President, Provost Office and Moxie Foundation; and
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of Master's degree in Social Innovation, Business, Entrepreneurship or a related field; or equivalent combination of academic experience and field experience is required. - A minimum of five years' experience launching, developing and managing social impact programs and initiatives, including but not limited to commercial and social start-ups, academic programs, and community-based organizations.
- Five years of direct management experience, including leading, building, coaching, and motivating a diverse team.
- Experience working at an academic institution in a role related to the development of social impact curricula and programs, advising and teaching social and commercial entrepreneurship, identifying and measuring change-making learning objectives, and leading social innovation initiatives.
- Explicit familiarity with entrepreneurship and the process of commercial and social venture development, launch, and scale.
- Direct experience working with university faculty and administrators is preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: - Effective communicator with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to communicate the mission and history of the College and the goals of the Moxie Initiative.
- Express interest and enthusiasm in the mission and goals of the Moxie Initiative.
- Leadership acumen to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a highly diverse group of peers, employees, students and community partners.
- Professional skills set in curricular and co-curricular experiential learning design and implementation, social entrepreneurship ideation and development, human-centered design, and impact assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with cross-functional teams and interdisciplinary colleagues, to best promote the College's strategic interests.
- Ability to operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software and associated professional software. Functional comfort level with the use of technology and equipment to streamline department systems and processes.
- Goal oriented nature with ability to independently solve problems and think outside the box, balanced with team orientation and working well with specific direction.
- Ability to perform activities and handle highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact.
- Ability to successfully prioritize and perform multiple projects, manage responsibilities, meet deadlines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College's strategic vision and the department's annual goals.
