Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) is the national trade association representing outdoor retailers, suppliers and manufacturers from across the $887 billion outdoor recreation industry. Our Washington, D.C. office brings the voice of the industry to key discussion on policy issues related to international trade, public lands and climate change. An internship with OIA would consist of assisting the government affairs team staff with day to day duties including conducting policy research, attending legislative hearings and developing advocacy materials. It also provides opportunities to interact with leaders from the outdoor brands OIA represents. Conducting legislative research on outdoor industry policy issues;
Drafting letters and action alerts to outdoor industry advocates;
Generating contact lists for legislative outreach;
Support for the execution of lobbying campaigns;
Representation at coalition meetings and preparing follow up reports from those meetings;
Attending and reporting on congressional hearings and meetings pertaining to the issues of priority for the outdoor industry;
Tracking legislation and congressional committee hearings and schedules;
Drafting correspondence to Congress, briefing papers, and other written materials;
Providing administrative support to the DC Government Affairs team;
Shadowing Government Affairs staff in their daily activities and assisting them as needed;

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements
Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Communication majors desired, but not required
Professional, service-oriented attitude
Experience in Microsoft Office is required
Excellent writing abilities
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently
Passion for the outdoors
Dependable and flexible
Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 24 hours per week
Applicants must be University of Colorado students in the CU in DC program.

This is a part time, unpaid internship with students receive credit through CU in DC Intern program. We provide a small stipend each semester of $500 per semester.
