Manager of Risk Management

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is seeking a talented manager with strong management skills to join our Risk Management team. The Manager of Risk Management is responsible for the administration of EBMUD’s risk management program and workers’ compensation program with a focus on prevention of loss and reduction of liability. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will supervise both professional and clerical staff.
EBMUD’s Manager of Risk Management is faced with the challenge of preventing loss and reducing liability and when losses occur, exercising effective claims settlement strategies. The manager is also responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of self-funding and commercial insurance. This position works closely with EBMUD managers, supervisors, outside counsel and EBMUD legal staff to determine strategies to assist EBMUD in preventing loss and reducing liability. When claims arise, in addition to settling claims within established authority, the manager is expected to coordinate with and direct services provided by contract claims administrators and insurance carriers, determine questions of fact and to recommend settlements or strategy for resolution.

The annual salary is $125,676 up to $181,536. Initial placement within the range is based upon qualifications. Appointment is typically made at or below the control point ($163,380 per year).
