The Senior Communications Specialist is a key contributor in the creation of communication that supports the school’s marketing and public relations initiatives. The main areas of responsibility include: planning, writing, and editing copy for all types of print publications and electronic media including alumni magazine, brochures, social media postings, website, emails, and e-newsletters. This position will also be responsible for designing and implementing social media strategies to align with business goals; hands-on research and interviews; working with media to highlight initiatives at Mitchell Hamline; and ensuring consistent messaging in all school communication.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, public or strategic relations, journalism or marketing communications; 5+ years of experience in the following areas: writing and editing; social media; media relations; event promotions; and project management (may consider combination of education and experience). Also required are: knowledge of Associated Press style; hands-on experience producing publications; strong written and oral communication skills with an emphasis on detail and accuracy; the ability to solve problems and work independently; and the ability to work well with people and serve as a resource. Knowledge of desktop publishing and Internet publishing software are a plus, as are skills in photography and photo editing.
