Reel Works seeks a director of development who is passionate about our mission to give young New Yorkers the tools, mentoring and training to tell their stories and have their voices heard. We seek a strategic leader who can partner with the executive director and board of directors to build relationships with stakeholders that will grow our revenue and create opportunities for our young people to thrive.
The development director is responsible for implementing the annual fundraising plan; renewing, reactivating, and expand the base of individual donors, organizing and managing fundraising and cultivation events, spearheading the major donor, corporate, and foundation donors; stewarding and managing the board of directors; and supervising the communications efforts.
The director of development will work closely with the executive director and board of directors. S/he will manage a full-time development and communications associate and part-time grant writer. The ideal candidate is a creative, flexible and disciplined fundraiser, savvy with boards and high-level donors, with a proven record of meeting ambitious fundraising goals.
Work with the executive director to implement the fundraising plan, in coordination with the board of directors;
Implement the annual fundraising event and cultivation events that help to secure unrestricted funding, acquire new donors, and cultivate and steward past donors, meeting the benchmarks defined in the fundraising plan for the donor pipeline;
Oversee the implementation/calendar of non-ask donor communications designed to engage the existing donor base through consistent, strategic outreach and engagement;
Oversee the administration and maintenance of the donor database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information and uses capture of data and segmentation of lists to maximize moves management and results;
Identify potential major donors from the donor base and get to know their philanthropic interests to implement a major donor stewardship strategy that includes cultivating and directly soliciting individual donors, with the potential to contribute at a level of $1,000+ or more annually (outside of events and annual appeals);
Identify and implement strategies for new major gift prospects; provide background materials for board member solicitations; and write regular reports for the executive director and board of directors;
Work closely with the executive director to help manage the process of cultivating, stewarding, and developing new relationships with institutional funders;
Manage the grant writer and administrative team in the preparation and submission of grant applications as outlined in the institutional section of the funding in the development plan;
Oversee all proposals and reporting to existing funders;
Report out quarterly on fundraising benchmarks met to date, including contributed income, institutional funding, donors renewed, reactivated, and acquired.
Excellent writing and communications skills;
Minimum five years experience in fundraising and projects management;
